Our client is one of the largest automotive manufacturers in the world with operations in both the UK and China. With 2012 vehicle sales in excess of 4.5 million they have ambitious growth plans to build on their past success through the development and introduction of class leading products. In order to achieve its growth plans, our client is seeking to strengthen its engineering team through the recruitment of highly competent professionals to join existing teams working on current and future engineering projects of strategic importance to the Company.

They are currently seeking a Gasoline Calibration Engineer on either a contract or permanent basis to carry out work in the following areas:

  • The development of Gasoline EMS Calibrations to meet legislative and driveability requirements to meet and exceed customer requirements
  • Carrying out activities to include but not limited to driveability, emissions, altitude, hot and cold climate and on-board diagnostics tests
  • Assisting with PT project planning and proposals for consideration, and execute the projects that are approved
  • Acting as a member of the Powertrain Integration team, driving the implementation of latest available technologies to ensure the competitiveness and success of the company’s vehicles
  • The role will require frequent overseas travel to our client’s facility in Shanghai, as well as various climatic test locations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Calibration Team Leader for EMS Calibration activity
  • Assisting in developing plans and ensuring that the calibration activities are conducted to plan, and the product achieves the targets of the Product Design Specification / Vehicle Target Specification
  • Providing the Calibration Team Leader with status reports and resource support within the budget constraints of their approved programmes
  • Supporting weekly team meetings and technical reviews
  • Taking responsibility for Powertrain EMS calibration development in vehicle, on chassis and engine dynamometer or other test facility as required
  • Assisting in the benchmarking of competitor products
  • Supporting Ride and Drive activities as a means of benchmarking vehicle driveability
  • Ensuring all data and reports are appropriately documented
  • Assisting in developing EMS calibration sign off criteria
  • Ensuring that the appropriate test standards are applied and are reviewed / updated as technology progresses
  • Supporting the Performance and Calibration input to any Request for Quote / RFQ response as required
  • Supporting the development and use of new technologies within the department
  • Supporting in-market and extreme environment testing
  • Supporting the supplier selection process

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Extensive experience within an Engine Calibration delivery team, either within an OEM or a consultancy
  • Minimum HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar relevance
  • Good working knowledge of Bosch EMS, particularly ME17 platform
  • Have experience of the complete product development cycle from conception through to implementation and then on into current engineering
  • Good working knowledge of European emissions legislation
  • Good understanding of INCA, with MATLAB experience desirableKnowledge of the Chinese automotive / OEM industry an advantage
  • Ability to prioritise, separating what’s important from what’s urgent
  • Good understanding of competitors products
  • Strong future thinking, out of the box thinking – able to identify new opportunities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Full driving licence
