Metrology Engineer

In this role you will work for our client measuring the dimensions of finished products, parts, tools, gauges and machine parts.


  • Interpretation of drawings, technical specifications, and product control documentation
  • Technical knowledge of vehicle driveline systems
  • Use of gauging, measurement and test equipment
  • Knowledge of measurement and calibration standards
  • Computer literate – PC applications and Gauge Management System
  • Communication skills – Written and verbal. (To customer interface standard)
  • Knowledge of the companies Warranty system and procedures
  • Knowledge of production processes
  • Knowledge of QS 9000
  • Knowledge of customer quality standards and requirements
  • SPC tools and methods
  • Ability to conceive measurement strategies and systems
  • Operate (and program) all measurement equipment within the Metrology Department


  • To provide measurement services to ensure compliance to dimensional specification of components, assemblies and prototypes at all stages of manufacture
  • Operate and program all measuring equipment with the Metrology Area
  • To advise on, and conceive measurement strategies and systems and evaluate their suitability for a given application
  • To ensure all gauging, measuring and test equipment are calibrated on the calibration dates to the specified procedures and standards
  • To produce Dimensional reports
  • To assist with the completion of P.I.S.T reports for product and prototypes
  • To provide measurement support to product and process improvements, including new machine purchase approval
  • To ensure all data, test results, certificates of conformance and reports are retained as per customer and third party requirements
  • To evaluate product concerns and where agreed advise and assist with their resolution
  • To report all non-conforming products to the Concern Management Room
  • To undertake training when identified to support business requirements and changes in technology and quality requirements
  • Support of internal and ADD projects
  • Support Design and Manufacturing Functions during all stages of project development and introduction
  • Review technical advances in measurement or test systems and recommend improvements to existing systems and possible solutions to new application
  • To assist when preparing for and receiving System Audits
  • Further activities and responsibilities may be assigned to support the operation of the Quality Department and that of production relative to business requirements


  • A minimum of an HNC Mechanical Engineering/Production Engineering or Equivalent
  • Ideally a Degree Mechanical Engineering/Production Engineering or Equivalent
