Paramex are searching for a Senior MAYA Look Development Artist and Team leader to work within an existing team based on a client site in the Northwest. We are seeking someone with strong generalist / modeller / texture / lighting artist’s skills and an excellent understanding of physically based shading and rendering. There will be the opportunity of an immediate start for the successful candidate. This is long term contract position.

In this role you will set-up and lead a small group of on demand artists and modellers as part of the team.The teams main task will be the modelling of soft trim luxury automotive interiors and exterior parts from released engineering 2D / 3D reference and scan data needed for the development of virtual environments, materials, shaders and lighting for the rendering of Hyper Real images for a luxury automotive car configurator and other personalised CGI media including sets for Real Time Motion Capture from photography, drawings and scans.

You may have previously worked as a texture artist, look development artist or 3D generalist and you will have proven experience of using Maya in production CGI environments, demonstrating an ability to create complex and accurate models from 2D reference, and 3D scan data.

Job Description

  • Set up and establish an on demand 3D modelling team
  • Set up and lead everything concerning lighting, shading, and rendering of images with a set deadline to customer quality standards
  • Supervising Junior Artists and modellers
  • Developing project schedules and planning their implementation

Required skills and experience

  • Experience of leading teams or small groups of artists and modellers as part of the team, to share assets, work to a high standard and quality check your own and other’s work
  • Minimum 5 years professional look dev / texturing / shading experience in VFX, working on live-action feature films and or TV commercials
  • An extensive reel demonstrating a wide range of organic and hard surface models with clean and efficient topology
  • Strong demonstrable experience with Maya and Arnold
  • Strong LookDev skills (both artistically and technically), with an excellent understanding of physically based shading and rendering
  • Excellent attention to detail and photorealism
  • Expert knowledge of 3D production pipelines

    OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • To develop / create PTA plans including budget / timing
    • Ensuring all programme and PTA gateway deliverables are met and clearly presented back to the relevant project manager as well as Department Director
    • To Project Manage all aspects of PTA tasks within both the International and Engines workstreams ensuring budgets / timing are fully agreed Globally
    • To support Senior Management in the development and delivery of a robust Product Definition Specification to meet future Powertrain and Vehicle requirements, including legislation driven tasks

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES.

    • Ensuring project plans are in place, at a component, system and vehicle level.
    • Leadership of budget and resource planning, creation and maintenance.
    • Highlight any deviation from plan at the earliest opportunity and instigate recovery plans.
    • Ensuring that the team has the necessary tools, processes and leadership to achieve the deliverables at each phase.
    • Ensuring that the correct predictive / analysis resources are used at the appropriate time.
    • Ensure competitor benchmarking strategy is appropriately defined and conducted
    • Support the strategy development with potential Suppliers, from a project management perspective

    SCOPE OF THE JOB

    • Responsible for developing plans to ensure all PTA activities are conducted within the required programme timing and GVDP Gateway process
    • Managing and motivating a team of engineers to consistently meet all targets
    • Driving forward innovation, best practice – including lessons learnt – and ensuring programme feasibility activities support the needs of the Business
    • Ensuring robust specifications are released to support all requirements of future IP and EN products and platforms
    • Fully engage PT Integration Application team in all programme proposals
    • Ensuring to provide the Powertrain Deputy Director with status reports as required.
    • Initiate and run departmental project reviews for effective progress tracking of IP and EN programmes, including Global VSE’s.
    • Developing skills through coaching and identifying and implementing training requirements within the team.
    • Support RFQ preparation / RFQ responses as required with Deputy Director
    • Fully support technical responses to our client’s site in China and engineer training in the UK

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

    • Significant project management experience – at least 4 full product cycles experience of Powertrain Engineering
    • Good working knowledge of PT Systems.
    • Excellent IT skills & high level ability of appropriate software applications (Excel, MS Project etc).
    • Ability to provide effective liaison across functions
    • Detailed working knowledge of the automotive industry Quality and Product Change Processes, SMTC Engineering working knowledge preferred.
    • Minimum HND or equivalent experience in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
    • Detailed working knowledge and use of FMEA process and ability to lead process as applied to application systems.
    • Structured and logical approach to problem solving.
    • Ability to manage and work under challenging conditions in a multi-cultural environment
    • Excellent technical report writing, presentation preparation and delivery skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, able to interact at all levels of the organisation.
    • Ability to plan activities through continually changing priorities.

    OBD LUMPR Calibration Engineer

    OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • To develop Gasoline & Diesel EMS Calibrations to meet legislative OBD and IUMPR requirements for a range of engines using DI, PFI and GDI fuel systems, both naturally aspirated and turbocharged.
    • Carry out activities to include but not limited to the delivery of OBD calibration for Global Markets (EU and China) through test bed and vehicle use. These activities will include hot and cold climate tests with frequent travel, including some to China.
    • Able to assist with PT project planning and proposals under consideration and equally be a pro-active team member within Powertrain Integration leading and/or assisting in the implementation of new process improvements to ensure our clients competitiveness and success moving forward.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES.

    • Reporting to the PTEC Snr Manager
    • Assist in developing the Gasoline OBD calibration team, programme plans, RFQ generation and ensuring that the calibration activities are conducted to time and cost
    • Provide the PTI Snr Manager with status reports and appropriate completed sign off documentation for the respective allotted vehicle programme
    • Support weekly team meetings and technical reviews
    • Responsible for Powertrain EMS OBD calibration development in vehicle, on chassis rolls and engine dynamometer
    • Assist in developing EMS OBD calibration sign off criteria
    • Ensure that the appropriate test standards are applied and are reviewed / updated as technology progresses
    • Support development and use of new technologies and/or processes within the department
    • Support in-market and environment testing
    • Support supplier selection process
    • The role requires frequent overseas to overseas test locations and to SMTC Shanghai

    SCOPE OF THE JOB

    • To perform OBD and IUMPR engine calibration which meets or exceeds the required project VTS and legal targets
    • To perform tasks in the most effective way of resource and time
    • Support OBD/IUMPR calibration engineering report outs to Senior Management
    • Support the development of new calibration tools and techniques to process improve within our client going forward
    • Work on environmental test trips for complete robustness testing for IUMPR and OBD calibration
    • To keep abreast of impact of Legislation on OBD and IUMPR calibration needs
    • To liaise with colleagues within Vehicle Calibration, System Integration & Electrical to ensure fully integrated OBD/IUMPR calibration activities are undertaken, in the most effective way
    • Support EMS supplier liaison and supplier technical development
    • To undertake benchmarking where appropriate
    • Work with Workstream teams to ensure test plans and activities reflect needs of calibration and Business needs
    • To support in the development and coaching of Calibration staff Globally – UK and China

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

    • At least 5 years experience within an Engine OBD Calibration delivery team, either within an OEM or a consultancy.
    • Minimum HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar relevance.
    • Good working knowledge of Bosch EMS and ETAS INCA toolset. MATLAB experience desirable
    • Have experience of the complete product development cycle from conception through to implementation and then on into current engineering.
    • Good working knowledge of European emissions legislation.
    • Knowledge of the Chinese automotive / OEM industry an advantage.
    • Good Broad knowledge of all Vehicle/Powertrain Mechanical Systems and components with an understanding of System Integration within the overall Vehicle delivery process.
    • Ability to prioritise, separating what’s important from what’s urgent.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Concept development and design studies.
  • Design detailing.

  • Liaison with internal and external customers on project briefs and activity
  • Provision of engineering design support for current product range
  • Ensuring that all design studies are appropriately documented.

  • Using MS Project to track timing against the overall Project plan. Highlighting any deviation from plan at the earliest opportunity and instigating recovery plans.

  • Scope of the Job

    • Creator of designs that satisfy the requirements of the Product Design Specification in the business recognised CAD platform
    • Ensure that the product design is compatible with the other functional groups
    • Balance all the product attributes so that the key business parameters are satisfied
    • Initially an integrator of proprietary components, then expanding into original designs as technical capability enhances

    Skills and Knowledge Required

    • At least 3 years experience of Petrol engine design, specifically on cooling and lubrication systems.
    • Ability to carry out basic design calculations relating to fluid systems to guide concept designs.
    • A working knowledge of high volume production processes
    • Degree or Masters in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering.
    • Proficient in Catia v5; including solid modelling, surfacing and drawings.
    • Working level knowledge of TeamCentre beneficial.
    • Familiar with Design Office systems
    • BS8888 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
    • FMECA.
    • Design For Assembly experience.
    • MS Office suite
    • Knowledge of CFD would be a distinct advantage
    • GT Suite with specific knowledge of GT Cool would be a distinct advantage
    • Willing and able to visit China for periods of time as part of a global team
    • Supplier interface skills.
